Whichever Path Brought You Here
Three Ways to Join
Newly licensed or already a REALTOR® elsewhere, your situation determines which type applies. All three give you full NMAR membership benefits.
Primary Membership
You're a brand-new licensee, or you're transferring your existing Primary REALTOR® Membership to NMAR. You pay your local, state, and national dues through NMAR.
Secondary In-State
You're already a REALTOR® and member of another Montana association and want to add NMAR membership. You get full NMAR benefits, but continue paying state and national dues through your primary association.
Secondary Out-of-State
You're already a REALTOR® and member of an association outside Montana and want to add NMAR as a secondary membership, most often for Montana Regional MLS access.
Before you apply: you'll need an active real estate license, hung in one of NMAR's REALTOR® member offices and supervised by a REALTOR® member. If you're not yet licensed, that's the first step, before anything on this page. Already licensed and transferring in? The application below is the same one you'll use.
Why Join
What Membership Gets You
Real, practical benefits you'll use day to day as an NMAR member.
Professional Development
80 to 100+ continuing education credits offered every year, covering Code of Ethics, Supervising Broker classes, Commercial Real Estate, Advertising, REALTOR® Safety, and more. Members register using a highly discounted Education Voucher instead of paying full price per class.
Montana Regional MLS Access
MLS subscriber access is available only to REALTOR® members. Montana Regional MLS unites subscribers from six associations across Western and Central Montana into one shared database.
A Voice in Government
Real estate is shaped by decisions made at every level of government. NMAR tracks what's happening from city council to the state capitol and keeps members informed monthly.
The Process
5 Steps to Activate Your Membership
- Complete the "Become a REALTOR®" Application
Submit your application, choose your membership type, and pay the application fee and prorated dues. This begins the onboarding process.
Start the Application → - Orientation & Membership Requirements
Complete orientation modules covering NAR orientation, the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, and fair housing training. You have 30 days from when your application is processed to finish. - SentriLock Service Fees
Pay prorated SentriLock service fees to get access to lockbox tools used across the market, including your SentriKey and lockbox services. NMAR authorizes your SentriKey® Real Estate app access once fees are paid.
Learn About SentriLock → - Approval by the NMAR Board of Directors
Once steps 1 through 3 are complete, NMAR staff submit your information to the Board of Directors for approval. This is a formality, you don't need to attend or do anything further. - Attend New Member Session & Induction Ceremony
Not required, but highly recommended, whether you're new to the industry or new to NMAR. Meet NMAR staff and leadership, find key resources, network with fellow REALTORS®, and get an MLS introduction directly from a Montana Regional MLS representative. You'll receive your REALTOR® pledge and pin.

How Membership Actually Works
The Three-Way Agreement
Joining NMAR isn't just joining one organization. REALTOR® membership works on what's known as the Three-Way Agreement: one application, one membership, and automatic enrollment in all three levels of the REALTOR® organization at once.

NMAR
Your local association, serving Flathead, Lincoln, and Lake Counties since 1971.
MAR
The Montana Association of REALTORS®, representing more than 5,700 members statewide.
NAR
The National Association of REALTORS®, America's largest trade association at 1.3 million members.
You can't join just one level on its own, membership in NMAR automatically means membership in MAR and NAR too. It's one dues structure covering all three, not three separate memberships to manage.
