Advocacy

The Most Powerful Tool REALTORS® Have in Politics.

Since 1969, RPAC has helped elect candidates who understand and support real estate — at the local, state, and federal level. This is how REALTORS® speak with one voice.
WHAT IS RPAC?

Not dues. Not mandatory. 100% impactful.

The REALTORS® Political Action Committee — RPAC — is the voluntary political investment arm of NAR. It was founded in 1969 with a single purpose: to elect candidates who understand real estate and support the interests of property owners, homebuyers, and the REALTORS® who serve them.

RPAC is not membership dues. Your dues fund NMAR's operations — education, advocacy staff, events. RPAC is separate: a voluntary contribution that goes directly to supporting political candidates and campaigns at the federal and state level.

RPAC doesn't support a party. It supports candidates — from either party — who demonstrate they understand real estate issues and will fight for property rights, housing access, and the conditions that make your business possible.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Let's clear up a few things about RPAC

"RPAC just goes to one political party."

RPAC is nonpartisan. Contributions support candidates from both parties who demonstrate support for real estate and property rights — regardless of party affiliation.

"My contribution is too small to matter."

Every dollar matters because it adds to the collective. RPAC's power comes from broad participation — a $25 contribution from every NMAR member creates real political capital.

"I don't follow politics, so this doesn't affect me."

Politics follows your business whether you follow politics or not. Zoning laws, transfer taxes, mortgage regulations, and fair housing enforcement are all shaped by elected officials.

"RPAC contributions are part of my dues."

RPAC is entirely voluntary and separate from membership dues. You choose if, when, and how much to contribute. There is no pressure and no penalty for not contributing.

HOW IT WORKS

From your contribution to the Capitol

01

You Invest

You make a voluntary contribution — any amount — through NMAR's RPAC investment portal.

02

Funds Are Split

A portion supports federal candidates through NAR RPAC; a portion goes to your State PAC in Montana through MAR.

03

Candidates Are Vetted

NAR and MAR evaluate candidates on their positions on real estate issues — not party affiliation. Only those who pass are supported.

04

Your Voice Wins

Supported candidates win races and carry REALTOR® priorities into office at city halls, statehouses, and Congress.

Your Investment

Every level makes a difference

There's no minimum and no maximum. What matters is participation. Here are the recognized investment levels — though any amount is meaningful.

Higher investment levels unlock recognition at the state and national level and signal serious commitment to REALTOR® political priorities.

Contributions to RPAC are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contributions are voluntary and used for political purposes. NMAR will not favor or disadvantage any member based on the amount contributed or a decision not to contribute.

Issues Mobilization Fund

When a specific battle needs specific resources.

RPAC supports candidates. The IMF fights issues directly. When a harmful ballot initiative is gaining momentum, or a local zoning proposal threatens property values, the Montana Association of REALTORS® Issues Mobilization Fund provides targeted funding to run campaigns, educate the public, and mobilize support.

How the split works: 30% of every IMF contribution is credited to NMAR for use on local issues at our written request. The remaining 70% is pooled at MAR for issues of statewide significance.
